Emily Sproul
Executive Director, Shenandoah LGBTQ Center
Emily Sproul is a lifelong resident of Staunton whose family has lived in the Shenandoah Valley for generations. She is the mother of four children, two of whom identify LGBTQ.
She holds a B.A. in History and a Masters of Teaching from University of Richmond and has worked as an elementary and a preschool teacher. She has also worked as a freelance writer and editor for local and national publications as well as for a national public relations group.
Her work on social justice issues has included allyship training and anti-racism work at the regional and national level as an active member of the Episcopal Church. Most recently, she helped to organize Staunton’s first Pride festival with a focus on coordinating volunteers and general event planning.
She brings first-hand knowledge of the challenges and joys of parenting LGBTQ youth as well as a deep understanding of and passion for the local community.
