AnhThu serves as Executive Director of the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center, located in Staunton, VA. With a background and early career in genomics, Nguyen joined the Center in November 2021 from a ten-year tenure leading the Genomics Core Facility in the Department of Biology, at the University of Virginia. She has nearly 20 years of experience in LGBTQIA+ advocacy work, spanning non-profit, community and activist organizations. She was a founding Board Member of the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center from 2018-2020 and has served on the Staunton Pride leadership since 2020. She currently serves on the Community Connections and Writing subcommittees of the City of Staunton Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee.
Identifying pansexual and as a first-generation Asian American born to Vietnamese refugees, AnhThu is a passionate advocate for community building and creating community-based safe spaces inclusive of all marginalized identities. She brings an intersectional social justice lens to all that she does, and is committed to seeing individuals gain social, political, and personal empowerment through advocacy, access to vital resources, and collective care.
